Holiday planning: Things to do in Adelaide

I planned to write this post to talk about all of the trips we have planned (or are currently just wishing to do) in the coming months, and talk about how travel plans are the biggest motivator for me: if I don’t have a trip on the horizon I can feel quite listless and agitated (kinda like how people with SAD must feel without sunlight).
Anyway, as I was saying, I had planned to write about these things…until something far more exciting superseded all of our mini-breaks: my little brother got engaged! Congrats, bro (and Holly); I’m unbelievably excited for you both. And also pretty pumped for a trip back to Adelaide sometime soon to be at your big day and hang out with friends and family. Apart from (or, hopefully, at the same time as) catching up with people, here are a few things I can’t wait to do, and places I can’t wait to visit, when I’m back:

To do: eat dessert at eggless cafe. This vegan, dessert-dedicated, menu-changing, late-opening cafe is possibly my favorite place to eat in my hometown. It’s no secret that I’m a sweet tooth, or that I have an extreme aversion to egg…so it’s like they made this place with me in mind! The menu changes every month, and all of the options sound just delicious (like the chocolate rhubarb brownie with marscapone that my sister taunted me with recently)!

Glenelg beach in Adelaide

To go: the beach. No need to say more, really. I live in London, and my local beach is the pebbled shore of Brighton, an hour’s train journey away. A beautiful, sandy beach will be a huge novelty!

To do: go back to Apothecary. I went here once a number of years ago for a family member’s birthday, and enjoyed a delicious meal and a wine that I wish I remembered because it would be my go-to wine now. The restaurant is in a wine cellar in the basement of a cozy, atmospheric bar filled with dark wood and comfy, mis-matched sofas. I need to head back here for a glass of red with friends, and hopefully to rediscover that amazing wine!

To do: try the best coffee. Coffee is one of my favorite things in the world, and I’m a self-confessed coffee snob, so it’s weird that I have never been to The Coffee Barun in Adelaide, which I’ve heard from many sources, serves the best espresso in the City of Churches. I guess I never went because it was ‘too far’ (half an hour is a long way by Adelaide standards; although I think I could cope nowadays!).

Of course, before all of that happens, there are other holidays to go on and new places to see, which I will absolutely keep you updated on. I just couldn’t contain my excitement about my newly announced reason to head back home for a short but no doubt fun-filled sojourn!

I loooove that plan. Let’s do it every day.

Yes, I second that! Great plan Greg, we’ll do it daily! And Holly, I’m so flattered you’d sacrifice your wedding diet for my gastronomic happiness :-D

  • Greg says:

Yay! Can’t wait for (probably) March!

I’ve never been to the Coffee Barun either. We could have a ‘Restaurant Crawl.’ Start at the Barun, go to the Apothecary and move to Eggless after that.

So excited that you’re coming back! There will be so many Eggless dates that will undo all my wedding dieting… and I’m okay with that!
