Wicked: London Theatre Review

Well hello there, readers! I hope you can excuse my absence of late (yes, I know, it’s becoming a habit); it’s just that so many things have been happening in the past few weeks…which of course means that I have plenty of lovely pictures that I will be sharing with you very soon!

I’ll start not from the beginning, but with the most recent of my many adventures. On Friday night I was able to check an item off my ‘things to do whilst living in London’ list, when I went to see the musical Wicked in London’s West End:

Wicked: the untold story of the Witches of Oz

My friend Shannon was celebrating her birthday, and as we have recently started a tradition of taking each other out for birthday experiences rather than purchasing gifts (Shannon treated me to a mouthwatering Italian lunch at a restaurant in Soho for my birthday in April; read about it here), I bought two tickets to the one musical we were both dying to see. As a young girl, I had three favourite movies: The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, and my friend Jamie and I used to watch the three of these on repeat as often as we could for a couple of years; so of course when I heard about Wicked I was immediately determined to go. It’s taken me this long (about 7 years) to get to see it, but it was well worth the wait!

I’m not going to give anything away; if you want to know what the storyline is, plenty of info is available online, but suffice it to say that the script was funny and captivating (especially if you know the story of The Wizard of Oz), the cast were brilliant and the songs catchy; the perfect recipe for a good musical. About halfway through the performance, I realized how much I love, and have missed, going to the theatre – it’s so much more engaging than a film, and there is virtually no room for error…it’s impressive to watch the professionals performing with such gusto, knowing they’ve done show after show already, with many more to come!

If you’re looking for a great night out in London, I highly recommend seeing Wicked; after The Lion King it’s the best musical I’ve seen yet, and I would absolutely go to see it again.
