A Luxury Itinerary in Jersey

Jersey Luxury Itinerary

Of course I’ve heard of Jersey. But if you’d asked me to point it out on a map, I’d have ummed and ahhed before waving in the direction of some random dot off the English coast somewhere. Anywhere, really.

Turns out, for anyone as clueless as I was, that it’s right here – about 100 miles south of mainland Britain, and only 14 miles from the coastline of France:

Jersey is one of the Channel Islands, and the sunniest one at that. For a tiny island it has a lot to offer, from Michelin star restaurants to adventure activities, and from city culture to the great outdoors.

After taking part in a Twitter chat last week about all that visitors can see and do in this gem of a British destination, Jersey has firmly landed at the top of my list of places to visit as soon as I can. And when I get there, I’ll be looking for the most luxurious things to see, do and eat. Here’s what I’ll get up to:

Stay: St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel

Jersey Luxury Itinerary

A luxury itinerary in Jersey would not be complete without a stunning hotel to stay in. St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel is located right on the beach, meaning that many of the rooms have a spectacular view over the water.

With a spa, indoor pool, restaurants and even a cocktail bar on site, if there wasn’t so much else to see and do on the island guests might be tempted never to leave the property.

Eating & Drinking

I can’t travel without eating well, so Jersey is the kind of destination I’d love to visit.

I mentioned the Michelin starred restaurants that call Jersey home, but did you know that there’s not just one, but four restaurants with Michelin stars on this tiny island? Beyond these prestigious restaurants though, the island is renowned for its cuisine, from fine dining to food festivals and markets selling local produce.

Jersey is known for Jersey Cows, which produce rich, creamy milk, and it’s also famous for fresh, delicious seafood. Le Niere Buerre, another Jersey specialty, can be translated as ‘black butter’, and visitors to the island can watch it being made (or pitch in to help) each year in October.

So whether you like five-star dining or rustic fare you’ll find it on this 45 square mile piece of land.

Shopping

So often I find shopping in new destinations a little disappointing. I’m completely spoiled living in London, as many of the world’s best brands are found right here in my city, so when I visit a new place and discover the same shops I’m a little underwhelmed.

The great thing about shopping in Jersey is that many of the stores are local, selling wares such as handmade jewellery, driftwood artworks and even perfume. St Helier is the shopping capital of the island, and it’s here that you’ll find these boutiques and many more, as well as regular high street stores, all located along quaint pedestrianized shopping streets.

Unwinding in Jersey

Jersey Luxury Itinerary

A luxury holiday wouldn’t feel right without some indulgence. As well as spas (such as the one located at St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel), Jersey offers plenty of ways to relax and pamper yourself. La Mare Wine Estate is tucked away on a quiet corner of the island, and it’s here that you can tour the estate, sample the wine or simply enjoy a meal in the restaurant, all on the grounds of an 18th century farmhouse.

Lavender is known for its calming properties, so you’re sure to feel relaxed after visiting Jersey Lavender Farm, where you can wander around the fields bursting with colour and perfume, and hear a talk on the process of creating lavender oil.

Jersey offers spectacular scenery, so whether you like walking, cycling, golfing or simply sitting in a cafe and watching, you’ll be able to unwind, which for me is one of the ultimate indulgences while I’m on holiday.

Jersey’s Beaches

Jersey Luxury Itinerary

It’s probably just another side effect of living in London, but these days I associate beaches with luxury. Getting to wiggle my toes in the sand, hearing the lap of water against the side of a boat or being able to sip an icy cold glass of bubbles with an expanse of blue before me is nothing short of luxurious.

Jersey is unique because its tides are so extreme, which means that every low tide, the size of the island doubles and the beaches become wider, sandier and even more spectacular.

Some of the most stunning beaches on Jersey are Beauport, Grève de Lecq and St Aubin’s Bay, but there are so many more just begging to be explored and enjoyed.

If you’re looking for a destination to visit that’s not too far away, and yet will feel like you’re in a totally exotic location, take a look at Jersey.
