A stop in Oxford, England

A few weeks ago we went to visit some friends in Birmingham for the weekend. I’d like to say that we spent the weekend exploring Birmingham and getting to know the city inside out, but in reality we slept a lot, ate some good food, watched a bit of TV and a movie and chatted. We did venture outside for a walk but it wasn’t really what you’d call vigorous; nonetheless, it was a lovely and relaxing weekend spent with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! On the Sunday afternoon they were driving down to a town south of London and they offered to drop us off along the way; so we tagged along for the ride and stopped in Oxford for lunch and a very quick look-around. I expected it to be very similar to Cambridge, a city which I adore (read about it here), but it was not what I had imagined. There were still some beautiful, old, intricate buildings but the majority of the town was quite modern and not too different from any other typical English town.

I liked the little guys on this clock!

We visited a couple of the colleges which were, as expected, very grand and majestic, but my overall impression (I admit we were only there for a very short time and may have missed some of the best parts) was not what I had hoped.

I definitely rate Cambridge over Oxford (controversial, perhaps?) and would recommend the former if I had to choose. Have you been to one or both of these towns? What did you think?
